Embedded & Class Librarian

Embedded Librarian

What is an embedded librarian?
The embedded librarian is an instructional partner who works with you and your students for the life of a course to deliver focused and intensive information literacy instruction.

Why should you have one for your class?
The librarian works with the instructor to develop a plan for sustained information literacy instruction that is relevant to a specific course or subject area. All subject areas are welcome, but please note that partnerships are on a first-come, first-served basis. This program moves beyond the basics of database searching and places an emphasis on examining concepts such as authority, scholarly conversation, research as inquiry, and more. Additionally, library sessions and activities will help students clarify research topics, identify and access useful resources & tools appropriate for research, determine the authenticity of sources, and avoid unintentional plagiarism. Prior to the start of the semester, the librarian and instructor will establish a plan and determine the goals and outcomes.

Class Librarian

What is a class librarian?
The class librarian will provide targeted support for discovery and access to resources for the life of a course. Similar to the role of the librarian in the embedded librarian program, the class librarian will work with an instructor for the duration of a specific course, but the emphasis will be placed on delivery, discovery, and access to resources rather than information literacy education.

Why should you have one for your class?
This program is available for all courses at all levels. If you are teaching a course that requires students to access information resources to complete assignments on one or more occasions, consider using a class librarian to help your students locate and access the appropriate resources. Prior to the start of the semester, the librarian and instructor will establish a plan and determine the goals and outcomes.
