Books and eBooks

SearchNorth

The SearchNorth Platform brings together nearly all of our collections. Use the SearchNorth tab on main search box to find items our print and electronic book collections. In addition to books, you will also find journals, articles, streaming media, and more!

 

Search VSC Libraries 

The VSC Library Catalog is the combined catalog of the holdings for Castleton University, Northern Vermont University, and the Vermont Community and Technical Colleges. Thousands of titles include books, maps, government documents, audiovisual materials, and non-print items. Members of the NVU academic community may request interlibrary loan for items not held in our library collection. Use the Search VSC Libraries tab on main search box to locate and place requests for items located throughout the VSC system.

NVU Libraries has more than 160,000 volumes on its shelves, organized according to the Dewey Decimal System (DDC). Click here for a quick guide to DDC. Books for casual reading are located on the main floor of both libraries. 

 

Search Other Libraries

WorldCat is widely recognized as the world’s largest library catalog, this database contains millions of entries for books and other materials. Use the Search Other Libraries tab on main search box to place requests for items located outside the VSC system, including the University of Vermont.

 

eBooks

EBSCO eBooks: This collection contains thousands of downloadable ebooks on a wide variey of subjects.
Ebook Central: This collection contains numerous ebooks. Functions include the ability to read online, search within the ebook, highlight text, take notes and bookmark pages in your online copy, You can also share your research with others, download ebooks and chapters to your laptop or mobile device, and more.

Textbooks

NVU Libraries offers some class textbooks through our reserve service. Follow the steps listed below to see if we have your textbook.

  • Option 1: search the catalog for the title of the textbook you need.
  • Option 2: In the Quick Links box on the library home page, select the the Course Reserves link and search for the name of your course or instructor. Instructors sometimes make available their own textbook copies via the library’s Course Reserves shelves.
